GLOVES (2017-19) is a textile sculpture series that reconfigures pre-embroidered barong tagalog shirts as pairs of delicate and non-functional boxing gloves. GLOVES is a metaphor for the Filipinx-American fight for post-colonial visibility and agency, and the West Coast struggle against orchestrated violence/oppression, while contending with tropes of Filipinx nationalism and masculinity.

GLOVES, Pre-embroidered piña jusi fabric, silk thread, nylon rope, & nail, 11 x 32 x 6 inches. Photographed by Alexander Taylor. Collection of the Fine Arts Museums of San Francisco.
